This metal souvenir from the Cologne Carnival is marked Festkomitee Kolner Karnival 1823. I'm not sure of its intended purpose. It would make a great paperweight but it also has a screw hole in the center if you wanted to hang it on a wall. It is basically an elaborately molded flat object with the colorful characters on top. One is rather Nordic looking and the other a Roman Centurian. The Norseman is marked 1974 and is drinking beer. The Roman has a glass of Rhine wine. The back has 2 large felt pads to protect furniture or wall. I am not sure of the metal but it is probably brass based on the weight.
