Volksmarsches are 10 or 20 kilometer fitness walks put on by various countries in Europe. The walk routes include quaint villages, forests and pathways.
Walkers pay an entry fee and at the finish of the walk receive either a silver medal for the 10k or a gold for the 20k. Children and the elderly get gold no matter which walk they participate in. Some towns give away plates, pictures or mugs instead of the medals.
This medal features a relief of Schloss Landstuhl. Landstuhl, Germany is the site of a US military base and hospital. The medal is gold tone medal at the top marked 1978 and iron on the bottom. On the back is inscribed B. Laib 7531 Eisengen. The medal is in fine condition.
